About the event
After composing his Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom and essentially defeating the Russian Orthodox Church monopoly over the publication of sacred music in 19th century Russia, Tchaikovsky wrote sacred choruses that re-conceived how the classic prayers and hymns of the Orthodox liturgy might be set.
We will sing all of these nine sacred pieces, tracing Tchaikovsky’s compositional journey with this musical genre.
